Bat Fun in Austin

Austin, Texas, United States - 23 Aug 2014      See on Google Maps

Austin has one of the largest colonies of Mexican free-tailed bats in the country. During the annual Bat Fest hundreds of people line the Congress Street bridge to see the little critters leave their nests. It is a great sight if you visit Austin in the summer. This picture was taken from a long distance as the Colorado River takes a turn and it is a nice angle. What I like about this picture are the spectators - especially the child with a bat hat on someone's shoulders.
