Thinking that 0300 was a bit early and I should be alone I was surprised that the parking lot had over 15 cars - wow. I collected all my gear - and coffee and began the hike to the arch.

There were only three photographers at Mesa Arch all shooting the Milky Way. The result in the picture is the wavy lines before I locked the tripod - make it a neat composition - the type of firework is beautiful. This is the first overlook into the canyon. At first, it seemed understated compared to other grand views into Canyon de Chelly on the south side.

Tunnel canyon quickly goes from the overlook into the canyon but not a cliff drop. Therefore, it is possible to hike to the canyon floor from the overlook (if you ar Navajo or guided by a Navajo).
