Penguin Window
Paradise Bay, Antarctica - 01 Jan 2026 See on Google Maps
Paradise Bay was very crowded by ice flows and animals (mostly seals) on the flows. As the zodiac maneuvered around the ice a larger iceberg came into view. We were very excited to see a window in the towering piece of ice. As we circled the ice we were very excited to see an Adélie penguin sitting near the hole. We all tracked the penguin hoping the zodiac would line up the Adélie penguin and the hole in the iceberg. Closer and closer we all were giving instructions to the zodiac driver. Finally the Adélie penguin was framed perfectly!!
I kept the shutter speed high due to the movement of the small boat which meant a higher than normal ISO.
. This was one of the few sightings we had of an Adélie penguin.
